Jill Scott is the only daughter from her mom Joyce Scott. She was born in Philadelphia the state of Pennsylvania on the 4th of April, 1972. Jill Scott was raised by both her mother and grandmother. The only child she has. Scott attended The Philadelphia High School for Girls. After graduation in the year 2000, she enrolled at Temple University. While working two jobs and studying secondary education, she continued her studies. She was hoping to be a English teacher at the high school level. Her dream to become an English teacher at high school ended when she dropped out of school. The path she took to her career started with a performance artist who spoke words and performing during poetry readings. Then she teamed up to Amir Quest Love Thompson from The Roots. The two ended up working together in writing You Got Me. She came out during an Roots concert. Afterward she secured collaborations with artists like Eric Benet Will Smith and Common. She gained performance experience through the Canada production of Broadway's show Rent. Also, she was the first signing agent for Hidden Beach Recordings.
